Excerpt:
We may not be able to see what's on the path ahead, but Heavenly Father can. He also knows what our children are going through even when we don't. That's why He will sometimes give us promptings to reach out to our children, and we may not understand why. As Kerry, my mother-in-law, described to me, "Sometimes I would receive little inclinations that I needed to stay home and be there when so-and-so comes home. Sometimes that's when they're the most teachable. Maybe it was the quiet of the night. When everyone else was asleep, that was a special time." Kerry has also had promptings to call her children when they have been living away somewhere. When that happens she prays she can say and be whatever her child needs at the moment. She explained how important that willingness to listen for promptings had been for her children:
All of my kids have asked me,"How did you know I needed to talk to you?" I remember Josh asking me once, "Were you praying for me yesterday? I felt extra comfort." I had been. I told him, "Well, yeah, I was praying for you because I was worried." I don't think we realize how much our prayers can bless others, even if we never talk about it. The more you listen, are humble, and are worthy of receiving the Spirit, the more it will come."

An intriguing post, Diony. I'm glad I came over to meet Heidi. Listening for promptings: I have been pondering this very topic recently regarding a daughter. Thanks for posting this excerpt that brings back memories as well as reminding me that listening to the Spirit is most important.
