New Release: In The Shadow of a Queen by Heather B. Moore

Based on the true story of the free-spirited daughter of Queen Victoria.

Princess Louise’s life is upended after her father’s untimely death. Captive to the queen’s overwhelming mourning, Louise is forbidden to leave her mother’s tight circle of control and is eventually relegated to the position of personal secretary to her mother—the same position each of her sisters held until they were married.

Already an accomplished painter, Louise risks the queen’s wrath by exploring the art of sculpting, an activity viewed as unbefitting a woman. When Louise involves herself in the day’s political matters, including championing the career of a female doctor and communicating with suffragettes, the queen lays down the law to stop her and devotes her full energy to finding an acceptable match for her defiant daughter.

Louise is considered the most beautiful and talented daughter of Queen Victoria, but finding a match for the princess is no easy feat. Protocols are broken, and Louise exerts her own will as she tries to find an open-minded husband who will support her free spirit.

In the Shadow of a Queen
is the story of a battle of wills between two women: a daughter determined to forge her own life beyond the shadow of her mother, and a queen resolved to keep the Crown’s reputation unsullied no matter the cost.

Book Blast- Heart Of The Ocean

Heart of the Ocean
by Heather B. Moore

A dark secret . . . a grieving ghost  . . . a handsome stranger  . . .
What more could Eliza Robinson want?
Except for maybe her life.

In Heather B. Moore’s enthralling 1840’s historical romance, Heart of the Ocean, Eliza Robinson has turned down the very pretentious Mr. Thomas Beesley’s marriage proposal. As a business partner of Eliza’s father, Thomas quickly discredits the family and brings disgrace to the Robinson name.

While her father scrambles to restore his good name in New York City, Eliza flees to the remote Puritan town of Maybrook to stay with her Aunt Maeve. Although relieved to be away from all- things-male and unforgiving gossip columns, odd things start to happen to Eliza, and she is plagued by a ghostly voice. Her aunt’s explanation? That Eliza is being haunted by a woman who died of a broken heart twenty years ago.

After Aunt Maeve is tragically killed, Eliza's life is put in danger as she tries to uncover the mystery of her aunt's death. She encounters Jonathan Porter in Maybrook, whose presence in the town seems suspicious, yet she finds herself drawn to him. When she discovers that Jonathan’s dark secrets may be the link between the dead woman who haunts her and her aunt’s murderer, Eliza realizes that Jonathan is the one man she should never trust.

Book Review

Christ’s Gifts to Women, by Heather B. Moore and Angela Eschler, is an elegant hardbound book, the kind you would want to display on your coffee table in the middle of the living room. The illustrated artwork inside is beautiful and inspiring and so is the message.

As women today, it's easy to get caught up in the way the world downplays our inherent worth as choice daughters of God and our roles as nurturer to our families and others. In Angela and Heather's book, the 5 gifts Christ has given to women are discussed with insight and detail, and these gifts—mercy, experience, wholeness, nurturing, and seeing—are related to the women in Biblical times who faced and conquered challenges and relate to us, as women in the present-day.

This is a book to be pondered over and re-read, and would make a wonderful gift for any woman. There are many quotes and scriptures throughout the book that help one re-gain an eternal perspective quickly during times of loss, discouragement, loneliness or heartache. Here’s a few of my favorites:

“The future is as bright as your faith.”

“The Savior has power to heal us all in each and every aspect of our lives, if we but reach out to him.”

“As we focus on other concerns in our lives, we may miss seeing the Savior standing right beside us.”

“For with God nothing shall be impossible”
-Luke 1:37
